My Stutter

I try not to speak
when there is nothing to say
But when you’re there my heart
is in silence.
And I want to share it with you.
I speak and stutter
And struggle to speak
In the hope of a quiet moment
Between our tossing words
Tossing upon a ravenous sea.
See, I speak to you
To hear you talk
To play with your words.
When you are speaking
I explore a wooden glen
I wade in the chilled stream
I watch the sunlight land upon you
I am free I am safe
When you speak, and when you don’t
There is a peace
I find with you
Do not see when I stutter
I am speaking silence
And smiling too.
All I’m doing
Is waiting for you.
